A girl of 24 from Sector 82, Noida, UP, Wardah Khan clasped the zenith of success by cracking the much coveted UPSC CSE of this year. Facing failure in her first attempt Wardah remained steadfast in her journey and aimed to become a civil servant.
Her dream finally came true with the announcement of the UPSC civil service exam results on 16th April of this year. With securing an impressive rank of 18, Wardha Khan now embarks on her journey to serve in the IFS (Indian Foreign Service).

Wardah Khan stood out in the UPSC CSE exam this year with an outstanding 18th position. She did this by securing an impressive score of 1030.
She scored a total of 832 marks in the mains examination and secured a total of 198 in her interview. Wardha through her relentless efforts and unwavering zeal proved that if you are determined to achieve something then nothing holds you back from getting it.
Wardah Khan – Family Background
Wardah Khan is from Noida (Vivek Vihar, Sector 82), Uttar Pradesh. She has her family’s support in fulfilling her dreams of becoming a civil servant. She lives with her mother in Noida who is her pillar of strength. Nine years ago, Wardah lost her father. Her UPSC success was greatly received by her family and her well-wishers.
Wardah Khan – Educational Background
Wardah received her education from the esteemed SGTB Khalsa College which comes under Delhi University. There she graduated with a Bachelor in Commerce (Honors with distinction).
However, it was during her college days that Wardah started showing her interest in topics like geopolitics, politics, and history. These are some of the subjects which piqued her curiosity. Apart from that she would also engage herself in debates and Mock United Nations Sessions (MUN).
Wardah Khan – Work Experience
After graduation, Wardah Khan took up a job in the audit department of KPMG Global. There she worked for at least 8 months before quitting the job to make a full-fledged preparation for the UPSC exam.
According to Wardah, it was a bold decision that she had to make. However, she would not advise this to the future aspirants because she only did that as she did not have any financial obligations to fulfill.
Wardah Khan – Optional and UPSC Preparation
- Wardah started preparing for UPSC in 2021. She first appeared in the civil service exam in 2022. But she could not make it to the mains by a few marks in her first attempt.
- She then strengthened her preparation by reading the newspaper daily, reading NCERT books, making foolproof notes, and strengthening the static part of the syllabus.
- She used to study for 8 to 10 hours which could go higher to 12 to 13 hours right before the mains examination.
She opted for sociology as her optional and made thorough notes on that subject as well. Her dedication to the preparation is a testimony of her hard work and resilience.
Wardah Khan – Success Story
After failing to pass the upsc in her initial attempt, Wardah Khan came out victorious in her second attempt. She secured an 18th position and opted to serve in the Indian Foreign Service. Her preference for IFS is because of her desire to represent India on the international platform.
She wants to further India’s presence internationally and contribute to the Indian diaspora in foreign lands. Wardah’s journey from a zealous aspirant to opting for IFS is not only inspirational but also motivating to the aspirants of the future to thrive and strive.
